The International Movement
The Movement emerges from within the post-council passion regarding the importance of the laity in the Church:
“The lay person is the one who doesn’t pretend to go beyond his personal possibilities, but the one who accomplishes whatever he can with all his strength, with creativity, dedication and disinterestedly, while identifying himself with Jesus, without hesitation. Because it’s the Lord himself who attracts him into his spiritual passion» (C. M. Martini).
The first Groups of Friends, emerge in the 80’s, in the United States of America and in Lebanon: some lay persons ask to know the charism better. They commit themselves to deepen their faith and to put charity in practice towards the poor, alongside the Sisters of Charity. Other local Groups participate in the Sisters’ mission in various parts of the world.
