From the head of the AJA: “The Friends of Jeanne Antide of BAM, GADIBIAN, GORE and the surrounding areas have been living in fear for several days without being able to defend themselves, following a new conflict that has resulted in deaths, the wounded abandoned without medical care, displaced people without water, food, shelter.
In our prayers, we ask Saint Jeanne Antide to intercede for them and for all those who suffer the atrocities of war!”
On 8 May 2023, unidentified armed persons attacked and looted the village of Don, on the border with the Central African Republic.
The attackers killed more than a dozen villagers, set fire to huts, kidnapped oxen and left behind several wounded, who were evacuated to the hospital in Goré. Other wounded were treated in other hospitals.
The villagers belong mainly to the Kabba community, an ethnic group settled in Chad and the neighbouring Central African Republic, whose members are mostly Christians and live from agriculture.
On the same day, the Chadian Episcopal Conference said it was ‘shocked by the recurrence of intercommunal conflicts’ in the south of the country.
