Every June 16, the provincial day of the African child is celebrated in Ngaoundéré, Cameroon. Sister Pauline Bibake coordinated the celebration, along with the parish delegation.

This day, celebrated every year on June 16, was established in 1991 by the African Union (formerly the Organization of the African Union), in memory of the massacre of students that occurred in Soweto, South Africa, in 1976 during the protest against racial segregation in access to education.

The event in Ngaoundéré was attended by 750 children aged 7 to 16 from the church provinces of Garoua, consisting of four dioceses:

  • Garoua
  • Maroua Mokolo
  • Yagoua
  • Ngaoundéré
