Our communities in Lebanon, Indonesia, Pakistan, Vietnam and Paraguay lived the Laudato Si’ Week 2024 with creativity and commitment, questioning the role of human life on the wonderful and fragile balance of creation that God’s Providence temporarily gives us.

After the initiatives organised during the Week, the challenge is to have learnt good practices: we are already part of the problem, we also want to be part of the solution.

In Lebanon, students conducted in-depth research on a range of crucial environmental issues:

  • Acid rain: causes, effects on the environment and solutions to reduce its impact.
  • Chemical fertilizers and composting: comparisons and benefits of composting.
  • Eutrophication: processes, consequences and prevention methods.

The goal was to raise awareness and find sustainable solutions to protect our planet.

In Lebanon, as part of Laudato Si’ Week, pupils planted flower bulbs and vegetables in the school garden.

From Indonesia, Yogyakarta, comes a video about working with women in villages near the city to collect plastic. The plastic and bottles were washed and recycled.

From Pakistán sister Nargis brings in a video in which guests of the St. Joseph Association hospice engaged in learning about and practicing plastic recycling.

Sister Voung sends a photo telling how nuns and children in Vietnam engaged during Laudato Si’ Week.

In Puerto Triunfo, Paraguay, by the power of the Holy Spirit and with great enthusiasm, Laudato Si’ Week began under the banner of awareness.

The people in charge went to talk to the education teams of all the schools in the area, who welcomed their proposal with great openness, to help disseminate the material that was produced for the networks and dialogues of the different groups.

This is how we take care of the Planet … carry the seed of hope in our hearts and come out with a mission for the home and our school.

The work was able to continue with the children of Cristo Rey.

We will continue, in the coming days, to tell you about the activities carried out during Laudato Si’ Week throughout the SdC world.
