In Borgosesia, in the setting of the annual BONTÀ ELENA NATHAN LORO PIANA AWARD, organized by the local branch of the Italian Red Cross, sister Eugenia was honored along with Andrea Ndosala, Vilmer Merletti and the Borgosesia Oratory, who have distinguished themselves for their commitment to social work and support for those in need.

Sister Eugenia, originally from Varallo, was honored for her efforts in Alta Valsesia, Quarona and Borgosesia, where she served as a nurse for as many as 54 mountain hamlets.

We resume from VercelliOggi.it the motivation for the award.

Boots and backpack faithful companions of an endless journey, witnesses of miles traveled where love traced the path.

Years given to those in need, weary but never surrendered steps to offer a smile, an instant of relief.

Witnessing a goodness that dwells in the simplest gestures, it is a tale of a life entirely given, of a humanity that knows no boundaries.

“I don’t know if I deserve this award”, said Sister Eugenia, ”but I am happy to have made a contribution to Valsesia, a land I love. Goodness means leaving a mark, although perhaps the real mark was left by Elena and her family. This prize will be donated to the sisters engaged in Lebanon and Syria”.

Andrea Ndosala, a young man of Angolan and Congolese descent, born in 1994 in Varallo, was honored for his commitment to integration and helping young people. “I teach Italian to foreigners”, he explained, ”and despite personal difficulties, I decided to help the community. Receiving this award is very gratifying. One of my goals is to obtain Italian citizenship”.

Vilmer Merletti, a resident of Agnona and class of 1963, was honored for his gesture of generosity toward a sick friend. “I gave my support to a friend who unfortunately passed away. I had known him since childhood, and for me friendship is a fundamental value. I also have to thank other friends who have been there for us”, he said.

Finally, the Borgosesia Oratory received special recognition for the commitment of its animators, who, although they study in other cities, return every weekend to take care of the youngest. “I am impressed by their spirit of dedication”, said Don Michele Balzaretti, head of the oratory. ”These young people, despite having multiple commitments, choose to dedicate their time to the growth of others”.

The Elena Nathan Loro Piana Goodness Award continues to be a symbol of solidarity and civic engagement, an occasion to celebrate those who, through daily gestures, contribute to improving the community.
