Sister Simona Brambilla, a Consolata missionary, is the first woman to be appointed Prefect of a papal Dicastery by the Pope. The pro-Prefect will be Card. Ángel Fernández Artime, former Rector Major of the Salesian Society of St. John Bosco.

Sister Brambilla is a professional nurse with a license in psychology, was a missionary in Mozambique, one of the poorest countries in the world, and was in charge of youth formation and the recovery of street children in the province of Niassa: “From the people of Mozambique I received a lot. Sharing life with them has profoundly transformed me, opening up unprecedented horizons for me on a human, spiritual, missionary level”.

In 2011, she was elected Superior General of the Missionaries of the Consolata, a post she completed in 2023. She was currently secretary of the Dicastery for Institutes of Consecrated Life and Societies of Apostolic Life.

As a family of the Sisters of Charity we assure prayer and closeness to Sister Simona for this new, delicate and very important assignment.
