The New Moon on January 29 marks the entry into the Chinese New Year: preceded by days devoted to preparations, finally on the first day of spring, everyone wishes to return to their homeland, to their families to celebrate the Spring Festival.

The Sisters of Charity also participated in this grand movement of people, returning to their beloved home to thank God and each other for the past year. The quiet moments of the soul during the Eucharist, the quiet words with which they confided their stories, the smiles exchanged at the end-of-year meeting as thanksgiving to God and to each other.

Together with our Chinese-born sisters, we thank God for the blessings God has bestowed on the congregation and for the talents God has bestowed on each of us. We ask together that God will infuse love throughout the congregation and that each vocation may flourish in fullness.

2025, after 60 years, is the year of the Wooden Serpent: in Chinese culture, the Serpent symbolizes wisdom, introspection and mystery. Wood is associated with growth, creativity, stability and connection with nature. May this new lunar year be a creative and wise year for all.
