Lahore suburb of Youhanabad. There is dar-ul-karishma, known as “The House of Miracles” a shelter for homeless people, beggars, ex-prisoners, victims of domestic abuse, divorced women, acid victims, street children: all find a place here.
The nuns of the Queen of Peace community do not place conditions on the shelter.
On Feb. 4, 2023, they celebrated 25 years of attendance at the House of Miracles:
“Yes, it was really a very festive occasion. It was really a moment of grace….”
The Queen of Peace and dar-ul-karishma community, together with the guests, gave thanks to God. And this special event filled the atmosphere with gratitude, praise and thanksgiving to Almighty God.
The Holy Mass was celebrated by His Grace the Archbishop of Lahore, Sebastian Francis Shaw, concelebrating with his Vicar General. Fr. Francesi Gulzar, and Fr. Paulus Khan, Delegate for Pakistan of the Oblates of Mary Immaculate.
There was great participation from various women’s and men’s congregations and the valuable service of Fr. Patrick of the Dominican Fathers, master of ceremonies for the Jubilee Eucharistic celebration.
We also had the joy of the participation of two General Councilors, Sister Maria Luisa and Sister Solange, who came from Rome to visit our Region of Pakistan.
After the Mass, animation time prepared by the community, aspirants, novices and youth groups, which was much appreciated.
Sister Rifat Sitar, regional superior of the Sisters of Charity in Pakistan, concluded by thanking the Lord for his faithfulness and graces bestowed on our community.
“It is by His grace that we have persevered in our religious life and in the mission that He Himself has entrusted to us. He has called us to share the same love with all of humanity and especially with the residents of the House of Miracles,” stressed Sister Rifat, “It is an honor for us to serve the needy, the rejected and the socially marginalized. It is the sharing of our love with the poor that has helped us to become more and more like Christ. We thank him for giving us the strength to continue to love and serve the poor with dignity and respect”.
Heartfelt thanks were extended to the Archbishop of Lahore, Mother General and her Councilors, the Fathers, Brothers and Sisters of the different congregations present, the many lay groups and the Friends of St. Jeanne Antida. Special thanks to the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and the Brothers of Charity who supported her sisters in every situation.
Sister Rifat then invited all participants to continue to be a people of joy radiating the beauty of living the Gospel and to follow Christ to the fullest in the midst of our suffering humanity so that we may become a source of joy and hope for them.
