Oravita: the Summer Camp was organised from 24 to 28 July 2024 at the community of the Sisters of Charity in the Greek-Catholic Eparchy of Lugoj. The sisters serve in the Centre for single mothers with children and in the Home for the elderly.

Together with five young people and myself, we left Timișoara to hold a service camp with the children from the Centre and some children from the parish and the city.

The theme was You make me strong, with the Little Prince as our companion. We learned how to face fears, loneliness and how to become friends, especially how to know and grow in relationship with God.

Another activity was visiting the elderly where we received many drops of wisdom from them. The young people were impressed by this image and it provoked them in various aspects.

Great was the joy when we walked every day in the midst of nature, having the children of the Centre and the sisters of the community as our companions. It was especially beautiful when we walked for about an hour and a half to a Marian shrine and prayed and sang to Mary, thanking her.

On the last day we had a small final feast where the children showed what they had learnt through drama, singing and dancing.

I can only praise the Lord for all the graces received through this rich experience! I am tired, but truly with a heart full of joy and gratitude. I thank God for the community who welcomed us with willingness and charity, I thank the young people for their donation and involvement – they did almost everything – I thank God for the joy of the children and their open arms, I thank God for the parents who trusted us and… for the good snacks they gave us!
