The two summer months in the Northern Hemisphere were marked, first of all, by the International Month in preparation for Perpetual Profession. The group of young sisters – originally from different parts of the world – were accompanied by sister Solange, general councilor, and sister Linda, councilor of the Province of the Orient. The stages of this formation were numerous, from Naples, Regina Colei, to Besançon, at the Provincial House; to Bellevaux, at the chapel of Notre Dame des Malades; at the first novitiate in Saint-Paul, with a visit to the historical archives of La Roche in Haute-Savoie; and finally Pozzaglia, the birthplace of St. Augustine Pietrantoni and the historical archives of the Generalate, Rome.
In Luján, Argentina, from June 28-30, the Provincial Meeting-animated by Mother María Rosa and Councilors sister Maria Luisa and sister Mirta-was lived in presence with the sisters from Argentina and online with those from Bolivia, Brazil and Paraguay.
Collected within the newsletter are the testimonies of sister Elvira T. and sister Mirna F.
On the phone with L’Osservatore Romano, sister Elvira denounced the torture, mistreatment, illegal and arbitrary detentions that are the order of the day in the overcrowded prisons of the Central African Republic: “Then there remains the problem of the absence of a juvenile prison in the country. So kids who commit minor or major crimes, which is not unusual due to the conditions of extreme poverty, are thrown into overcrowded cells along with adults. Without rights.”
Sister Mirna recounted the situation in Lebanon, the country of the Cedars, which is going through one of the most dramatic phases in its history. The conflict with Israel is added to the economic and institutional crisis. Peoples and Mission collected his testimony, “Eighty percent of the people live in a state of poverty and in a situation of great uncertainty with respect to food, access to drinking water and medical care”. There is a lack of prospects for a peaceful future and fears of a regional war.
